I have spent a good deal of time working on the good endings, trying to figure out how the function. I don't know why they are so different from the bad endings. On the surface, they look very similar. In fact, a lot of the opcode stuff I recognize to play audio files and stuff. But the pointers are completely different and a mess. I thought maybe there is just one pointer to the start of the ending and it just reads in the bytes and parses it from there.
Surprisingly, it does seem to do this to an extent. But, there are pointers still. It's like it has segments where it just parses it, but then there are parts where a pointer handles stuff. The video on this post shows my attempt of just shoving my ending translation in there with the same opcodes separating the strings as there was before. You'll notice it isn't completely broken though. There are parts where the text and audio are obviously broken (surprise Tiffany and Hinata cameos), but most of it actually works. This leads me to believe there are actually pointers, but only to the beginning of the parts that get messed up. Basically, there is a pointer to the first bit of text every time the picture changes, and it points to audio opcode. But my stuff is all just text or random crap, so we get to hear random audio and then a snippet of text until the next end string code is encountered. It's kind of cool, but it's infuriating not knowing where these pointers are.
My worst fear is that the pointers are actually just stored in the code to show the pictures and stuff. If they're just hard coded, my strings become a lot more limited. Each pointer block would have to be equal to or less than the english strings... I just don't know if that's possible with the translation I have. In general, the Indonesian is shorter over the whole text, but there are parts where it's longer and other parts where it's a great deal shorter, so yeah, on average it's shorter, but that doesn't tell the whole story.
The good news is that I have translated all the good endings. They are much shorter than the entire stories, so my progress has jumped significantly in that category.. I will definitely look over them again once I receive Noel's translations, just to make sure things aren't really off between the two. If I can figure out this good ending stuff, I think I'm actually getting pretty close to being able to release a playable version with all the story text translated. I could go back and do menu text and such later. I don't know if I'll ever bother trying to hack graphics and such, so this may be as far as the project goes. I have looked into the credits files, and I'm fairly confident I can add my name and Noel's to the in game credits, which will be pretty cool.
